We recommend that newcomers spend an orientation evening with us including:
  • Welcome and observation of ongoing classes.
  • A one hour introductory dance class.
  • Our Every Friday Dance (optional).
  • Assistance on what to do next to fit your dance goals, budget and schedule.
To make the most progress we generally recommend combining four methods of learning.

  1. Group lessonsIn groups, you’ll get great value, fellowship, and practice in leading and following different partners.  You’ll also learn floor craft; the skill of getting around a floor with other dancers on it! Start with Level 1 classes then move on to level 2.

  2. Private lessons – One on one with a professional instructor/dancer, you will find “your game” improves quickly with individualized attention and good technique right from the start.  Yes, beginner social dancers really get value from private lessons – you do not need to be “serious” or a competitor.  For many, this is the most comfortable format.

  3. Practice - Anytime the BDC is open, you may practice here – dance is physical as well as social; the more you do it, the better you get, the more comfortable you will be, and the more fun you will have. We have special practice sessions for Argentine Tango, shag and salsa and you may practice your other dances at our Every Friday Dance.

  4. Dances - Dances are a fun way to socialize, exercise, and practice. This relaxed setting balances the structure of lessons and practice. The Every Friday Dance is open to all and provides a fun chance to practice.
