EMILIE BRYAN TOBIAS (Owner, Instructor, and Professional Competitor) Emilie attended Davidson College earning a BA in history with later graduate work at the University of Virginia in Student Personnel Administration. She is professionally certified by DVIDA with an Associate of Dance Degree with high honors in American Style Smooth and Rhythm. She worked as a college administrator in international and business education in Virginia and Boston, then in 1992 started the Ballroom Dance Center in Augusta. In 1998, she directed the building of the current 5,000 square foot studio, creating the premiere dance facility in the CSRA. She toured in the US, Argentina, and Brazil performing with Washington based QuinTango. She and professional partner Val Ganiev are United States finalists in the American Style 9 Dance Division. She writes and directs original ballroom and Latin shows such as Murder at the Moulin Rouge and The Seven Deadly Pirates. VALERY GANIEV (Instructor, Dance Director, and Professional Competitor) Val is a graduate of Moscow State University and holds a Master's Degree in Geology from the University of South Carolina. He is professionally certified by DVIDA with an Associate of Dance Degree with high honors in American Style Smooth and Rhythm. Turning his early athletic endeavors in Greco-Roman wrestling into competitive dance experience, Val teaches both International style and American style competitive and social dance. Val and professional partner Emilie Tobias are United States finalists in the American Style 9 Dance Division. Val and Emilie have taught the accredited ballroom program at The University of South Carolina. BRANDIE ROZIER (Instructor) With undergraduate work at University of Georgia and Augusta State University, Brandie finished her Bachelor's Degree in biology. She is professionally certified by DVIDA with a Junior Associate of Dance Degree with high honors in American Style Smooth and Rhythm. As a professional dancer and instructor, she teaches American style ballroom, Latin, and authentic Argentine Tango. She and dance partner/husband Stephen Rozier are the only professional Argentine Tango dancers in the state of Georgia, and have developed an exciting program at The BDC, the birthplace of Tango in the Augusta area. Brandie and Stephen coach and perform around the Southeast region, and are founding members of Tango Dream Dance Company, the first professional Argentine Tango dance ensemble in the Southern US. They are also cast members of the touring authentic Tango show Tango Dream, the first collaboration of local and Argentine artists of its kind. She and Stephen have notably performed with The South Carolina Philharmonic of Columbia, The Octavio Brunetti Orchestra based in NYC, and Washington DC based QuinTango. STEPHEN ROZIER (Instructor) Stephen attended Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania on a rowing scholarship where he studied sports medicine. He completed his Bachelors Degree in psychology at Augusta State University. He earned his Masters Degree from the Physician Assistant program at The Medical College of Georgia in 2008, and is currently a board certified Physician Assistant (PA-C). Stephen is trained and fluent in all ballroom and Latin dances, and also loves acting. He performs lead roles in The BDC’s original showcase productions, and is an outspoken advocate for professional dancers and their valuable role in the arts community. Stephen is professionally certified by DVIDA, holding a Junior Associate degree with high honors in American smooth and rhythm. He and his wife and dance partner Brandie are the only professional Argentine Tango dancers in Georgia, coaching and performing Tango throughout the Southeastern US. They have notably danced with The South Carolina Philharmonic in Columbia, The Octavio Brunetti Orchestra of NYC, and DC based QuinTango. Brandie and Stephen are also founding members of Tango Dream Dance Company and touring show, which will tour again in early 2010. YUN FRENCH (Instructor, IT Director, and Webmaster) Yun attended Colorado Christian University and then at Augusta State University. Completing a degree in Computer Programming at Augusta Technical College in 2007, Yun brings his technical skill as a webpage designer and computer expert to the BDC along with his role as dance instructor. As all BDC dance instructors are trained in all major ballroom and Latin dances, Yun brings an expertise to our salsa curriculum. JONI HORTON (Instructor) Joni comes from Indiana and is currently stationed at Fort Gordon on active duty in the US Navy. She is professionally certified by DVIDA with a Junior Associate of Dance Degree with high honors in American Style Smooth and Rhythm. She has performed professionally as an actress and singer and she also had her own Spanish Web gymnastic rope act in the circus!
